The land of legend

The fundamental streams of vedic thought had entered into the society of Assam in the very early period .Here we find many shrines which are dedicated to Siva, Surya, Vishnu and other deities. Thus the famous temple Kamakhya , which is regarded as one of the ” Shakti Peeths”. It is located on the Hill Neelachala, which is also called “Kamagiri”. It is about five or six Kms away from Guwahati city.

The temple was destroyed and was rebuilt by Naranarayana , the king of Cooch Bihar.
