DATA MANAGEMENT

DATA MANAGEMENT

So far, we ahave learnt about computer languages, the translation of computer programs using assemblers, compilers and interpreters, and some of the application tools. wehave also seen that in certain situations application tool might not help the user to meet specific needs, in which case tailor made software is developed.

we have been using the terms Dato and Information fairly Frequently. let us pause to differentiate between the two.

Data refers to a piece of unprocessed information. consider a departmental store, whch sellers various items. every day customers visit the shoop and purchase different items and in each case , abill is made with information about the sale made.

If the shop keeper requires information about the sales made , he simply has to take the bill books and total all the bill amounts. this would give him the total of the sales made for the day.

In this case , the bill amounts are the Data , and the total sale is the information. here in lies the difference between Data and information.

Yes, data has no value until it is analyzed and converted in to useful information. But data has its own importance. If data is not right then result will also not be right. Also, it has to be determined which data is needed, how it will be analyzed, from where and how it will be collected, and what sort of information reports are required.
