What is progress?

Progress as most believe is the improvement in the standard of living and is more physical and obvious. Everyone strives to improve the standard of living, but at what cost? If Ignoring and destroying the value systems is a path to progress, then such a progress is only going to degrade the society equating such humans to animals. Can progress not be achieved retaining the value systems? I believe it is possible.

By ignoring the value systems and improving the standard of living, yes the physical as aspects are satisfied, but has any one considered the emotional progress? To day the progress is generally at the cost of the other and that by dubious methods. Such a progress has emotional degradation which definitely has an effect which are not obvious, but an internal suffering develops, which leads to tension, anger, enmity, selfishness and all that are against a good meaningful living. In many cases the improved standards of living are never enjoyed, but leads ones to strive towards improving further as a result greed taking over. There is never time to enjoy the improved standard of living.

Loyalty is one of the virtues of good value systems. Today if either the husband or the wife is not loyal to each other, there is this so-called progress called divorce, which the couples adopt. If this is sign of progress, then great it is one of the benefits of progress.

Honesty is one of the virtues of good value systems. Today every one is trying to cheat the other for material gains there by improving ones standard of living, depriving the other. This leads to corrupt practices and if this is part of progress, then great, let corruption and dis-honesty take over society.

Discipline is one of the virtues of a good value system. As part of the so-called progress, ill-discipline is becoming the norm and today the youngsters have role models in representative of such progress. Youngsters are becoming more and more dis-obedient, questioning the rights, believing the wrongs to be the norms of the day. If this is progress, great let us all strive towards making this society more ill-disciplined.

The list of cherished values is fast dis-appearing and if this brings progress and improve the standard of living, then great let the value system degrade.
