Writing – My newfound Satisfaction

Coming from an average middle class family, with my father working as a Govt. servant, the extra-curricular activites was limited. Being a very straightforward govt. servant, it was a hand-to-mouth situation. But my father ensured that all his children were provided the best of education. One immediately may conclude it to be one of those high-profile schools. I would like to clarify, that it was not so. My education was from the Kendiya Vidyalayas, where the fees were almost next no nothing. With limited resources, neither he nor we could indulge in any costly extra-curricular activities. But one thing for sure, he urged us to read a lot of books.

During my initial school days, the school library was my only source for grabbing any book or novel that came my way. This developed into a passion and as time passed, I had to plead my father to get me a membership into a circulating library, which he readily agreed. Thus my reading habit continued. As time passed and the pressure of work and family developed, there was a sudden drop in my reading, but yet whenever I used to travel by train on long journeys, I would ensure that I had a couple of novels to keep me company.

The last couple of years, I had a chance opportunity to particpate in NDTV forums. That was when I started to post my thoughts in various topics of discussion. But then I realized it was turning out to be an intellectual fight more out of satisfying the individual egos, which I started detesting. Even at that point I did not realize that writing was something which I could really attempt.

It was about 2 months back when, “Betterlife” who was also one of the very active participants on NDTV forums, and with whom I had developed a good rapport, introduced me to eblogs and blogging. Even then I did not realize that writing articles was something, which was my cup of tea. But then having, registered myself in eblogs, I thought of attempting to write. It was also at this point in time that I started receiving a lot of good morning SMSs on friendship. This triggered a thought in me to write a poem on Friendship. Thus my first blog titled “Poetic Frienship” evolved. The immense pleasure it gave me spurred me to write more articles. But my association with eblogs, also saw some bitter aspects of blogging. I realized that, many were attempting blogs, by copying from other articles. I decided that I should do something to ensure that bloggers and blogging brought in creativity and originality, and thus started my policing as well as an advisor.

Now I should say with immense gratitude to Betterlife, that writing was something which was there within, which was triggered. This newfound pleasure so immense, that I have no words to describe.

I believe that every one has this capability. But it is only the inclination and the lack of belief that one can be original in presenting ones thought, that is a stumbling block. I would shout from the top of the roof to say, that everyone has this creative writing which is innate, and only requires a little bit of trigger.

Believe in yourself, and that is the key to creative writing.
