Unknown things bout SHABARIMALA!!!!!!

The pilgrimage is there only for 2 and a half months, namely it begins in the month of November Known as the month of Vrischikam in the malayalam calenders and ends in January.
Mandalapooja is as always on Nov.15th and Makaravilakku is on the 14th of jan. i.e on the day of Makar Sankranti.
These are the two main events of the pilgrim season and implies of lots and lots crowd for this.
The temple stays closed during the rest of the year except for the first five days of every Malayalam month and during Vishu (April).
This is the only center of worshiping in world where the people have to go to a muslim worshipping place on the way of the temple.
Its the place made for lord ayyapa’s friend Vavvar swami who was a muslim by caste.
This temple has 18 golden steps made of pure 916 gold leading towwards the god………..
In this temple only the girls below the age of 10 years and ladies above the age of 60 are allowed in. Whereas all men are allowed.
This is because before visiting the temple its very essential to do a 41 days Vrat.
During this period the people have to leave all the bad adicts and even Non vegetarian food.
But normally all Malayalees avoid non veg. food during these days.
The pilgrims are given plain black clothes to wear during their whole journey to and fro the temple.
Hope all will have atleast one visit to the temple……….
It would be the golden chance we get in our life………….

Thanks for posting this interesting information about the temple. Can you elaborate on the part where you say that the people have to go to a Muslim worshiping place on the way of the temple?

    Hello,

It is believed, that Vavar a muslim invaded, and Ayappa was the one who had to defend. A fierce battle took place and ultimately Vavar had to surrender. Then on the two became good friends.

After the death of Vavar, a mosque was built at the base of the sabarimala.

Since vavar was a good friend of Lord Ayappa, devotees believe that the best way to satisfy Ayappa and get his blessing will be through his best friend, and hence the practice by Ayappa devotees to go to the mosque before climbing the Sabarimala.

Sir i got doubt… This is a 21st century . Muslim religion originated in 7th century AD( after 700 yrs of Christ born ).. then How vavar king came to india to invade Iyyappa??? If this vaavar and Lord Iyappa are friends then this event must be held after 8th century AD….. Right???
