The 24 year old British female pop singer Amy winehouse almost did a clean sweep of the Grammy awards ceremony. She won 4 out of the 5 coveted awards at Grammys 2008. She also equaled the record for the most number of awards in a single Grammy year. This success of Amy Winehouse equals the record of Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and Beyonce for the most number of awards in a year by a female artist. She won the record of the year(“Rehab”) and song of the year(“Rehab”). Hit number Rehab also fetched her the female pop vocal solo performance award. “Back to Black” got her the the pop vocal album award. she was awarded the best new artist for the calendar year 2007. However, Herbie Hancock walked away with the coveted album of the year award for “River: The Joni Letters”. This judgment surprised many as Hancock was an unexpected nomination.
The awards came as a much needed moral booster for the 24 year old Winehouse. Three weeks back she was filmed doing a cocaine and later spending time in rehab clinic. There were also problems in her US work visa which prevented her from collecting the awards personally. She did not disappoint her fans by giving her performance from a London Studio. she performed her popular hit tracks “Rehab” and “You know i”m no good”.
