LUCKY NOT TO BE AMERICAN
ONE OF MY FRIEND WAS TALKING ABOUT ONE OF HIS ENCOUNTER WITH AN EDIOT BUT LATER HE REALISED THAT HE (WITH HIS FRIENDS) HAD BEEN FOOLED.
It was a winter evening when few of my friends were gossipping at a “LOCAL ADDA”. They were discussion about Indian Cricket. How Sachin created history with his strokes, how did Kumble handling the Indian Test Team, how is Dada (Sourav Ganguly) improving his batting line, etc. All of a sudden a stranger throw a comment on them, “you are lucky to be here”. I forgot to mention that all of my friends were discussing in Assamese, our mother tongue.
All of my friends directed their sight to the stranger, a lean man in his late sixties. They sometimes see him roaming around their Adda place and sometimes they bother to know his well being too. The stranger placed himself among my friends and gave special look to everyone out there. He repeat what he had said little before. You are lucky to be here. You kids, talking nothing of your use and just wasting your time. Why don’t you learn to discuss in english language? Do you all know to make sentence in english? You are lucky to be here. I repeat, you all are lucky to be here.
The stranger left the place as he put his entry out there. All were mum for few moments. The mood of discussion was no more. Instantly, all of them left for their respective homes.
Next day my friends assembled again for their daily Adda. The topic was about the person. They came to a conclusion that either the man was mad or an ediot. As they were to break up for the day, one of my friends pointed out the man they were discussing about and all were waited till the person arrived near them. Uncle, could you please give us a moment, one of my friend uttered. The man stopped with a question in his look.
Could you please tell us why we are lucky. Others giggled as the question was asked.
The man replied, ” young man you are really lucky. You don’t know how to speak english. Just imagine what would have happened if you were born at America?”
The man leave the place with a slim smile over his lips.

They were lucky enough as they can speak Assamese. The old man is a genuine lover of Assamese language. Isn’t it?
Actually the person was an extrovert and he observes the young gathering everyday. He was interested to know what they discuss everyday none of the members failling to attend the Adda regularly. So he tried to get close to them by a light joke.
