Poor preparation of the pitch
I was very disappointed about the way in which Chennai pitch was prepared by the ground officials. It was a flat track and didn’t provide assistance to any bowler. India had a good bowling attack but still the pitch was prepared so flat.
South Africa after one and half day’s play happily now in the driver’s seat with a score of 501/6 (at tea time). Indian batsmen have to now fight for the draw instead of a win.
Indian fielding was pathetic in this first test match. R.P Singh & Sreesanth gave away few runs with poor fielding skills.
After a beautiful opening partnership between Greame Smith & Mc Keneize, Hasim Amala took the center stage with his excellent batting technique. He finally got out when his personal score read 150 plus.
It appeared that the Protears prepared themselves very well against the spinners of India. All the batsmen were comfortable against Kumble, Shewag & Harbhajan. It is early for me to comment and I have to yet see, how these RSA batsmen perform against Indian spinners when a turning track is presented.
Indian team has only one thing to do in this test match and that is to bat well & settle for a draw. In my opinion the match is heading towards a tame draw
