IAS officers are sold
8th March 2008
I saw strange news on this day on Star News. IAS officers are sold for Rs. 13 Crores or so to get married. In other words the girl’s side have to give dowry to them, only to get married. Isn’t this cheap in today’s world.
Even though the girl earns well and is well educated, the girl’s parents have to pay the dowry. Is education not enough in today’s life? I am against dowry and will not let my Dad give a single penny to boy’s side, if I get married.
What about that family who cannot afford to pay the dowry? I am really upset after seeing all this. Are selling the IAS officers or other grooms? Isn’t an educated girl enough for them?
Happy International Woman’s Day
Hello Nisha,
Dowry is one of the social evils which has to be completely removed. Though the times have changed, and there has been significant reduction in the dowry issues compared to what it was several decades, it still needs to be stopped completely.
Pledges like what you have taken, must be taken by every eligible women of the society. Similarly all eligible men should take a pledge not to take dowry. No law is enough to prvent such isssue. The concerned people alone can stop this social evil.

yes dowry is a social evil ..one should not encourage it by accepting the unusual demands of the grooms side
Why to talk only about IAS officers there r many and many and many person who follow this custom. Dowry is banned but still followed at many places. People have to understand about this and stop this acts.
The virtue lies in the struggle, not the prize.

A nice topic to discuss on this day…is naything happening for the Indian women…….
It is another social evil. But the blog deals with a high profile person. If an IAS is sold for 13 crores, than how much a Spacescientist will cost.
Anyway, we are to fight against this social evil so that our future generation need not suffer these. For this to happen, we have to achieve 100 percent literacy of our country.
DOWRY– THE GREAT MENACE IN OUR SOCIETY. YOU MUST FIGHT IT. IT IS DEROGATORY TO THE RESPECT AND DIGNITY OF WOMAN. I NEVER ASKED FOR ANYTHING FROM MY FATHER-IN-LAWS HOUSE. I AM MENTALLY PREPARED NOT TO GIVE IN MY DAUGHTER TO MARRIAGE TO SUCH A FAMILY WHO ASK FOR DOWRY. IN CASE OF MY SON I AM NOT GOING TO ASK FOR ANY DOWRY — IT IS ON PRINCIPLE. I MAINTAINED AND SHALL MAINTAIN.
THIS IAS OFFICER YOU SPOKE OF MUST NOT BE IN HIS JOB AS HE IS TOTALLY UNFIT FOR THE RESPECTED POST OF IAS OFFICER. HE MUST BE DISMISSED.
