Pitfalls of Modern Medicine

modern Medicine (which people call Allopathy) has done wonders to the human race. While the average life expectancy has grown remarkably across the globe, many communicable diseases have been vanquished. And, yet, the Modern Medicine is still inherently flawed,
For one thing, many of the ‘wonder drugs’ have unpredictable side-effects on its users. The reason for this is the varied genetic composition that interacts differently with a given chemical compound. Though there are no well documented studies on the ill-effects of drugs, it is no more a secret that lakhs die every year solely due to drug toxicity-a case of treatment being worse than the disease!

A Concept of God

God has been interpreted in many ways through the ages. one them is energy equation. Or the Shakti. We can give scientific basis for this concept:

We all know that Hindu God is represented by trinity- Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar. Christians too think of God as a trio- the Father, the Son and the holy spirit. So do Jews.

If we see how the electricity flows, it has three phases- positive, negative and nuetral. Atom has three components-proton,nuetpron and electron. Threrefor energy has three components and representation of God as a trinity is only symbolic.

And all living things are bits of that Supreme Energy interlinked with eac other as a continuum. Realisation of this basic truth can make this world a much better place bereft of conflict.

The Laxmi Magic

One of the most touching and magical moments I ever saw on The TV was when Laxmi, nestled in her dad’s arms,blinked innocently at the media glare.
Laxmi, the conjoined twin was born with 90% formed {but headless} sister-the parasitic twin-attached to her hip bone. Seperating her from the parasitic twin meant thatthe nerves includig the spinal cord,blood vessels and other shared organs had to be systematically cut with minimum damage to Laxmi’s own internal parts.
While the surgeon’s effors win kudos, the real hero was Laxmi herself for having come out it ‘unscathed’.Firstly, 27 hour operation meant that the child had to with-stand long hours of anaesthesia. And her body had to bear extensive cuttins,tearing and sawing.

Fun in chinese names

During my student days at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, some of the funniest anecdotes involved the names of our chinese classmates.
For instance,during a roll call session, the anatomy professor sneezed with a resoundig “hak…ack..shee” And a chinese student responded with a “Yes, Sir”. Because his name was Hak Ack Shee!
Somedne in the hostel theorised that during the naming ceremony of a chinese baby, the child’s father threw a coin on to the floor and from whatever sound it produced-ting dong tunk or ding tonk deng- a new name was ‘coined’!
And how do you pronounce the name ‘Ng’? According to Mr Ng himself it is the sound one produced while one strained on the toilet-seat to overcome constipation!
