Children’s day

The international children’s day is celebrated all over the world by the UN ans UNESCO on November 20th every year. It is celebrated as the Universal Children’s day and is aimed at promoting worldwide fraternity and understanding between children. This date was chosen because on that day the Declaration of the Rights of Children was adopted by the UN.

In India Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, whom children fondly called as Chacha (uncle) is closely associated with children. His birthday is celebrated as Children’s day. It falls on November 14th every year. Nehru used to like children a lot and even posed for photographs with them whenever possible. One of the more endearing pictures from history is a child pinning a rose on Nehru’s coat.

Remember

What has happened has happened well!
What is happening is happening well!
What is due to happen will happen nicely!
What did you lose, why are you crying!
What did you bring to lose!
What did you create to get destroyed!
What ever too have taken, was taken from hear!
What you gave, was given hear itself!
What are yours to day become others tomorrow!
Net day it becomes somebody’s!
This is the Law of Nature.

Are curves better for a woman’s intelligence?

What have the curves on a woman got to do with her intelligence? Plenty!! If you are to believe a recent study conducted on more than 16000 women and girls.

Researchers found out that the bigger the difference between a woman’s waist and hips the better they perform in IQ tests and also their children consistently performed better. So what’s the reason? Researchers writing in Evolution and Human Behavior give the reason to be due to more Omega-3 fatty acids on a woman’s hips. Omega-3 fatty acids are very important in neuronal development and play an important role in the development of fetal brain cells too. However the confounding effects of social class and diet are to be explained convincingly.

English goof-ups by medical professor!

While in medical school we have had our share of fun at the teachers’ expense. However one of them comes to my mind very often. This professor was called as Dr. Basappa. Behind his back we used to call him Oxford Basappa! English is a funny language and this guy took it to a new level.

Some of his goof-ups include:
1. One of our friends was creating a racket in one of the backbenches. The professor told him to get up and follow him out of the class. He left the student there in the corridor and told him “don’t follow me!” In other words he did not know how to tell get out!!
2. On another occasion he told one of the students to open one of the windows so that the atmosphere can come in!!

Fun in chinese names

During my student days at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, some of the funniest anecdotes involved the names of our chinese classmates.
For instance, during a roll call session, the anatomy professor sneezed with a resoundig “hak…ack..shee” And a chinese student responded with a “Yes, Sir”. Because his name was Hak Ack Shee!
Somedne in the hostel theorised that during the naming ceremony of a chinese baby, the child’s father threw a coin on to the floor and from whatever sound it produced-ting dong tunk or ding tonk deng- a new name was ‘coined’!
And how do you pronounce the name ‘Ng’? According to Mr Ng himself it is the sound one produced while one strained on the toilet-seat to overcome constipation!

How to choose passwords for online transactions?

A recent campaign group (Get Safe Online) has mentioned that we leave ourselves very vulnerable to identity frauds because of our passwords.
Passwords are basically problematic. If you decide to use an easy one then just remember that they are easy to crack also by the cyber thugs. How to choose a password forms the core of this topic.

How to choose a password that can be safe?
1. Try to mix letters, numbers and punctuations. Make the passwords as long as possible.
2. Do not use easy to remember passwords like son or daughter’s name, partner’s name or a pet’s name.
3. Never use a word that is in the dictionary. Online fraudsters have developed softwares and programs to crack these passwords.
4. Do not use consecutive letters on a standard QWERTY keyboard.

Dawa Cocktail

I am going to write down the recipe for a very famous drink that is available in Kenya and East Africa. The name of this cocktail is Dawa. Literally this means medicine!!

The ingredients are as follows:
1. 30 mL of Vodka (Smirnoff for better results!)
2. Plenty of crushed ice.
3. A couple of spoons of Honey.
4. Some might like to add lime cordial as needed but it tastes just fine without the lime cordial.

Sit back and enjoy the drink on a hot summer day!

Sister Logical and Sister Mathematical

There were two nuns…

One of them was known as Sister Mathematical (SM), and the other one was known as Sister Logical (SL).

It is getting dark and they are still far away from the convent.

SM: Have you noticed that a man has been following us for
the past thirty-eight and a half minutes? I wonder what he wants.

SL: It’s logical. He wants to rape us.

SM: Oh, no! At this rate he will reach us in 15 minutes
at the most! What can we do?

SL: The only logical thing to do of course is to walk faster.

SM: It’s not working.

SL: Of course it’s not working. The man did the only
logical thing. He started to walk faster, too.

SM: So, what shall we do? At this rate he will reach us in one minute.
